Podmínky
There are a few options. At the end of the road, you will see a dome-like option for take-off. It is a 15 minute hike and provides easy take-off from many directions. This is a good take-off for beginners as due to the various direction options for take-off and landing. There is a second advanced launch over the southeast ridge. If the wind is not constant, you will be in for a long, long hike bac It may be possible to launch from the dome and thermal over to the ridge. The name was given by English miner's in the early 1900's. This trail can also be hiked. There are several areas to bring a snow machine or snow shoe if you'd looking for an alternative activity if it's not flyable. It's beautiful and the view alone is worth the effort. August 15 to September 16 is hunting season and Carcross/Tagish First Nation ask people not to hike there during this period. We saw large snow devils forming along the southeast ridge and stayed clear.
Přístup a přistání
If you take the 4x4 road to the north-facing side of the mountain, there are other launch options. You can choose to fly-down and land on Annie-Lake road. Drive towards Carcross then turn right on the Annie Lake Road. Follow it to the Wheaton River Bridge (GPS Coordinates of LZ). The trail head it 9km past the bridge or 34km from the highway. There is a another steeper trail 4km earlier, but that is the wrong one. The trail to get the the launch is about 14km long (where is seems to stop), then another 4km to get over the last ridge (look for switchback). There is a section that may be impassible due to mud or stream in spring/summer. You can also bypass the last switchback and head to the Northern side of the mountain. There are are a couple of scenic beautiful view of the valley. These are are advanced sites due to the remoteness and possibility of landing far from help. Skidoo in winter or spring, and 4x4 in summer. The view from the launch area overlooks the Wheaton River where is enters Bennet Lake. Note the LZ GSP Coordinates are the coordinates for the turn-off. It is possible to drive up the mining road in a 4x4 or ATV or Skidoo.
